Patagonia's lightest and most packable insulated jacket ever
Developed over 10 years, Patagonia have created the Micro Puff Hoody as the lightest, most packable insulated jacket in their range, whilst achieving the highest warmth to rate ratio Patagonia have ever achieved.
Materials & Insulation
Plumafill insulation - 40% warmer for its weight than other leading synthetic insulation. It looks feels and behaves like down and traps air just as efficiently but with less material.
Pertex Quantum Shell - Ultralight ripstop nylon shell uses a tightly woven structure to create a light and soft fabric. The addition of a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish allows this hoody to shed light rain and snow.
Features
- Centre front zip with storm flap and zipper garage at chin
- Two welted, zippered handwarmer pockets
- Two internal drop-in pockets keep your belongings organised
- Left pocket doubles as integrated stuff-sack with carabiner clip-in loop
A closer look
Because of this new insulation, Patagonia have designed a new quilting pattern which consists of a non-continuous quilting technique that blocks down the insulation. It locks each strand of insulation into place to prevent shifting, and maintain the maximum warmth-to-weight combination possible while using the least amount of insulation. To work with this new quilting pattern, Patagonia have also developed a new construction pattern to make fewer, but larger pattern pieces which allows heat to move more freely inside the jacket and create less scrap, keeping fabric out of the landfill.
The centre front zipper is backed by a storm flap and features a zipper garage at the chin for next-to-skin comfort. Two welted, zippered handwarmer pockets and two internal drop-in pockets keep your belongings organised and the left pocket doubles as a stuff sack with a reinforced carabiner clip-in loop.
The under-the-helmet hood construction makes the hood light and simple, and elasticated cuffs and hem help to heal in warmth.
This synthetic fill jacket provides an unprecedented combination of warmth, minimal weight and compressibility.
Developed over 10 years, the Micro Puff Hoody is Patagonia's lightest, most packable insulated jacket ever. Featuring 30% fewer pattern pieces than a normal insulated jacket, the Micro Puff has been ruggedly tested through 4 years of field-testing, spent 288 total hours in a Killer Wash and features a new quilting pattern to create a garment that feels like nothing, yet boasts the best warmth for weight Patagonia has ever achieved.
The ultralight ripstop nylon Pertex Quantum shell uses a tightly woven structure to create a light and soft fabric that allows insulation to fully loft. The addition of a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish allows this hoody to shed light rain and snow.
Packed inside this hoody is revolutionary PlumaFill insulation, which consists of a poly central fibre wrapped in ultra-fine filaments to create places for air to be trapped. 40% warmer for its weight than other leading synthetic insulation, it looks, feels and behaves like down and traps air just as efficiently but with less material. Proven out in the field, this insulation was tested over 7 years, including a 24-hour killer wash that simulated a lifetime of use where it suffered almost no loss in loft.
